Status update: TRAFFIC ALERT: Street paving in Bergenfield - N. Prospect Avenue from Central Avenue to Columbia Avenue will be closed for paving on Tuesday, July 20. Also scheduled to be closed at various times during the day are Judith Place & Dover Court. The paving work is subject to the weather, and depending on the progress, paving may be extended to Wednesday, July 21.

Status update: The Lodi Police Department advises that beginning today, Friday, July 16 at 9:00 p.m. through Saturday, July 17 at 12:00 p.m., major bridge construction will occur on Route 46 and Main Street. Expect road closures and delays. New traffic patterns will be implemented. Be alert, and use alternate routes where possible. Emergency Services vehicles should avoid the area.

Status update: BROKEN WATER MAIN: As of 9:03 this morning, New Milford Avenue in Oradell is closed between Elm and Kinderkamack Road for a water main break. Only those residents living on New Milford Avenue will have access during the repairs. DPW, PSE&G and NJ Transit Bus traffic will have to use local roads in New Milford to access Marginal Road. Residents can still access the DPW from the New Milford Side also. There is time estimate on this repair yet.

HIGH TEMPERATURES TODAY ARE EXPECTED TO REACH THE MID TO UPPER 90S WITH HEAT INDEX VALUES FROM 100 TO 104 DEGREES. A HEAT ADVISORY IS ISSUED WHEN HIGH HUMIDITIES ARE EXPECTED TO COMBINE WITH HOT TEMPERATURES TO MAKE IT FEEL LIKE IT IS 100 TO 104 DEGREES FOR TWO CONSECUTIVE HOURS. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS, STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM, STAY OUT OF THE SUN, AND CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS.

Status update: We have a number of municipalities reporting concerning the heat wave and its effects. As of this morning, there are power outages in all of Park Ridge, and sporadic outages in Hillsdale where PSEG is on scene restoring service. All residents are advised to do their best remain cool and to conserve power. United Water is also encouraging residents to conserve water due to a greater than normal usage in New Jersey.

No watering of lawns at any time, no washing of cars, driveways and buildings, and no filling of pools are permitted. Violators will be subject to fines of up to $1,000.

Status update: TRAFFIC....AND BEARS: Ho-Ho-Kus - As of 8:57AM, Route 17 northbound at Hollywood Avenue is shut down for approximately an hour due to a truck fire; expect delays. Oradell - A small bear has been spotted running through town, last seen on Oradell Avenue heading East from Summit Avenue. If you see the bear, call the Oradell Police Department right away at 201-261-0200 and keep away from it.

Family Fun Day is FREE to all Bergenfield residents; proof of residency is required. Non-residents can also register for a fee of $5 per person with a maximum of $30 per family. EVERYONE (residents & non-residents) MUST REGISTER TO ATTEND. If your have not yet registered, you can register on Sunday at the main entrance gate to Memorial Field starting at 1pm.

According to the National Weather Service, a "tornado watch" means that conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms & multiple tornados in and close to the watch area. Strong winds and large hail is possible. Residents are urged to take safety precautions, including securing any light or untethered items outdoors.

Status update: The Oradell Police Department reminds residents that bicycle helmets are required for all children under 17 years of age. This includes skateboards, scooters, and skates. NJ Motor Vehicle Law 39:4-10.1 and 39:4-10.5 cover the requirements for bicycle, skateboard, scooter, and roller skate helmets. A person who violates a requirement of this act shall be warned of the violation by the enforcing official. The parent or legal guardian of that person also may be fined a maximum of $25 for the person's first offense and a maximum of $100 for a subsequent offense. The Oradell Police Department encourage you to speak with your child and ensure that they meet these safety requirements at all times.
