RIDGEFIELD, NJ - More than 30 Ridgefield families were evacuated from their homes, and thousands of residents have little or no water pressure, as a result of a break in a 36-inch water main.

The break occurred at around 5:45 a.m. this morning in the around around Hamilton Avenue and Chestnut Street, and has flooded streets and yards. Several cars were reportedly submerged.

The cause of the break is currently unknown. NorthJersey.com is reporting that the flood has covered an area of five blocks.

UPDATE: United Water New Jersey has reported that emergency crews have stopped the water flowing to the 36-inch water main break in Ridgefield, and have restored normal water pressure to customers in Ridgefield, Palisades Park, and Fairview who were affected by the break. United Water will soon begin excavating the site to start repairing the broken water pipeline.

UPDATE #2: United Water New Jersey has also issued a boil water advisory for the homes directly affected by the break this morning. Customers are advised to boil their water for one minute for the following uses: drinking, cooking, baking, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula, mixing juices or drinks, feeding pets, or other consumption. United Water states that its customers should continue to boil their water until further notice.
