Pedestrian traffic fatalities continue to occur in NJ "at a disappointing level"

BERGEN COUNTY, N.J. - On Monday afternoon, the New Jersey State Police released some sobering statistics on pedestrian traffic fatalities in the state, including two traffic fatalities over the holiday period in Lyndhurst and Clifton.

According to the State Police, pedestrian traffic fatalities continue to occur "at a disappointing level".

Preliminary data for Bergen County is as follows:

1/29/2009: Hillsdale
4/10/2009: Hackensack
6/17/2009: Palisades Park
6/17/2009: Hackensack
8/8/2009: Palisades Park
8/25/2009: Waldwick
8/19/2009: Paramus
9/26/2009: East Rutherford
11/10/2009: Montvale
12/9/2009: Hackensack
12/14/2009: Bogota

There were two fatalities over the Christmas holiday period: one was a pedestrian death in Lyndhurst, the other a driver of an SUV in Clifton, Passaic County.

These numbers are only preliminary, and may change as late reporting agencies report in or an injured person succumbs to injuries.
