Montvale man grabs officer's gun in scuffle with police, cops say

MONTVALE, NJ (BERGEN COUNTY) - Montvale Police say that a local man assaulted three of their police officrs and grabbed one of the officer's guns at a scuffle at his Hope Street home on Sunday.

Douglas Giordano, 46, has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault on a police officer and one count of disarming a police officer.

Police reportedly responded to Giordano’s house Sunday night to check on the welfare of a reported depressed individual. According to authorities, after speaking to Giordano, the officers concluded that he was potentially dangerous to himself and others. A struggle ensued, with Giordano allegedly attacking all three officers and gaining control of one of the officer's guns. He was quickly disarmed and arrested.

The officers were slightly injured in the scuffle, according to police. Giordano was reportedly being held in a secure wing at Bergen Regional Medical Center in Paramus Monday for observation.
