A Livingston accountant has been indicted on charges that he masterminded a scheme in which he and 14 others – including two men from Lyndhurst and North Bergen – stole nearly $700,000 from the state by filing false unemployment benefit claims.

Lyndhurst calls for other river towns to take action on flood mitigation

The township invited state and federal legislators to a meeting on May 29, hoping to start a dialogue on the flooding risk the Passaic River posses to Lyndhurst neighborhoods. At times, the meeting turned into a soapbox for officials and residents discouraged by what they believe is indifference by lawmakers and red tape. While split on how to go about mitigating the problem, the high turnout was evidence of locals not being content to reconstruct their lives again and again following river flooding.

Lyndhurst police: Pit bull that bit two boys had attacked others

A pit bull that bit two 12-year-old boys this week also attacked two other people in the past three years, police said Wednesday. It’s unclear why the dog was allowed to remain at home with its owner, Lorena Castillo, despite a history of violence. The dog was taken by Bergen County Animal Shelter and will be quarantined while health officials determine whether it’s a dangerous dog.
