Elmwood Park wife charged with suffocating her husband

Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli announced on Sunday the arrest of Jenny Tran, 47 of Elmwood Park, for the suffocation murder of her husband, Mihn Trung Tran, age 50.

The arrest was made by detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Squad, under the direction of Chief Joseph Macellaro, and the Elmwood Park Police Department, under the direction of Chief Donald Ingrasselino.

According to authorities, the investigation revealed that at approximately 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2009, the police responded to the Tran residence after receiving a 911 call. Upon arrival, members of the Elmwood Park Police Department found the victim, Mihn Trung Tran, lying in his bed and unresponsive.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Mr. Tran died as a result of suffocation, say authorities. They added that Mr. Tran had suffered a stroke some time ago, and was not in a position to defend himself.

Mr. Tran was unemployed at the time of his death.

An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted on Monday at the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

Jenny Tran was charged with purposely and knowingly causing the death of Minh Trung Tran and will be lodged in the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack New Jersey. Bail was set by Superior Court Judge Donald Venezia at $1.5 million, no ten percent.

UPDATE 3/30/09 11:10AM: Jenny Tran has a court appearance tomorrow 3/31/09 at 1:30 p.m. in Judge Carroll’s court room 412.
