A Carlstadt man was shot in the arm by police on Sunday after threatening to kill three officers with a hunting knife, authorities say.

Jared Chichizola, 27, of Second Street, has been charged with attempted murder, authorities said on Tuesday.

Police responded to the scene after the mother reportedly called a psychiatric emergency hot line, telling them that her son was refusing to leave and stating that he would kill a cop if one came to the house. Authorities say Chichizola was holding a hunting knife when officers arrived on the scene. When the police ordered him to drop the weapon, he lunged at them instead, authorities said.

Carlstadt police officer Dominick Parillo fire two shots: one missed, while the other struck Chichizola in the forearm, according to authorities.

Chichizola was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for the gun shot wound, and was reportedly in good condition.

Officer Parillo and the two other responding police officers were not injured in the altercation.
